Our mission is to promote and develop the application of creativity and the arts for health and quality of life outcomes for all people in Australia, regardless of age, race, gender or religious or political persuasion. In November of 2015, in celebration of Arts in Health Month, the Alliance for Arts & Health NJ hosted a series of open house tours at hospitals and healthcare facilities throughout New Jersey. A prospectus produced jointly by the Department of Health and Arts Council England.
One example is an article published in the book Creative Arts for Community and Cultural Change (McLean & Kelly, 2011) written by B. Stephen Carpenter II, professor of art education in the Penn State School of Visual Arts. We offer music at bedside, throughout units and in waiting areas of the hospital by professional musicians (Artist in Residence) and volunteer Duke student musicians. The journal defines ‘health’ broadly which includes physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, occupational, social and community health. Promote the professional development of people working in the sector (Health & Art).Create a strong and vibrant network. Arts in the healthcare environment: For the past thirty years, many hospitals have chosen to incorporate artwork into the healthcare environment to improve the experience of patients and staff. The arts can provide inspiration, motivation and opportunity for self-expression, from which emerges a sense of self, independence and dignity.
Peers and MPs with a shared interest in the field of arts and health come together for regular events to hear about and discuss the latest developments relevant to current policy priorities. Freelance and self-employed artists can apply for small grants of £1,000 to £5,000 to spend time building these links to broaden their horizons and open their work to other perspectives. The programme is open to emerging and mid-career artists working in combined arts, literature, music, theatre, dance, visual arts and crafts and design. In term 1 students take Module 1- Critical Mental Health Sciences and Module 2- Performing Mental Health. Because of this diversity a range of appropriate research and evaluation methods are required.
Walsh et al. conducted a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental study to test the efficacy of a creative arts intervention with 40 family caregivers of patients with cancer. It has been developed to enhance the profile of arts and health in Australia and to promote greater integration of the arts and health practice and approaches into health services, settings and facilities.
Arts For Health Florida is funded in part by the Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture. The two assessments (presentation and portfolio) are designed to provide public platforms for the dissemination of rigorous practice-based research while maintaining an emphasis on high standards of professional performance making. WMAH&W website is a practical resource useful to anyone involved in arts and health. The arts and health can intersect in many different ways, with different aims and outcomes.
