Enhance your individual creativity and learn how to use the arts in teaching, learning, and assessment to meet the needs of students with many diverse learning styles. The non-departmental structure of this faculty makes it relatively easy for students to take advantage of a wide variety of faculty expertise, and for students to develop a view of arts education which encompasses the curriculum as a whole. LISA STARK: Parker-Brass is the district’s arts director, a job she jumped into five years ago after two decades with the Boston Symphony. Engagement in the fine arts helps students to stretch their minds beyond the boundaries of the printed text or the rules of what is provable. Under Parker-Brass, Boston increased its arts spending by more than 50 percent, from $17 million to $26 million, and added millions more in outside grant funding, allowing the district to double the number of full-time art teachers. In your final semester, you complete a real-life work project through our Co-operative Education paper. Graduates wishing to pursue postgraduate study will be able to move on to a Master of Education.
The program is firmly grounded in critical arts studies and educational theory affecting arts education; is interdisciplinary across the arts, while allowing for specialization in a particular arts area; and ensures a link between arts students and other doctoral students.
