Creative arts therapists and community artists work in diverse settings across a wide spectrum of populations, assisting people through all life stages. Both professional and familial caregivers are faced with the realities of human suffering, illness, and mortality on a daily basis, and the arts offer caregivers an opportunity for self-expression, allowing each a safe place to understand their experiences and emotions.
Policy proposals will be formulated by the early autumn, informed by an Advisory Group of representatives from a wide range of professional organisations, health and social care providers and charities, statutory bodies, artists and cultural organisations.
This article is not meant to be a comprehensive review of all of the literature available (other authors have provided comprehensive overviews in areas such as music therapy 32 and expressive writing 33 ). Instead, it represents a sampling of the many potential benefits of art in enhancing health and wellness.
We have a long history of investing in the arts to improve health and healthcare in Lambeth and Southwark, and we continue to build on this legacy by funding creative arts projects which enhance the lives of patients, staff and the communities we serve.
Assessments: at week 24 during April, students: devise, manage, and facilitate a project (such as a painting workshop for enhancing educational achievements amongst children with Asperger’s Syndrome) and submit bound project management documentation of 2,000-3,000 words/ equivalent; write a journal article of 2,500-3,500 words/ equivalent; produce a research funding bid with ethics forms; and receive 3 assessment reports with grades.…
