We are training students for a long career of successful transitions and new challenges, not just for their first job. LSU College of Art & Design’s 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient Carmon Colangelo will deliver the commencement address at the fall graduation ceremony on December 19. Colangelo received his MFA in printmaking from LSU in 1983, and he now serves as dean of the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis.
It offers disciplinary-specific degrees in contemporary and historical arts as well as innovative cross-disciplinary programmes combining art, archaeology, music and media. School of Art graduates work as artists, animators, museum administrators, photographers, teachers, gallery managers, and commercial designers. These include: Arts Undergraduate Research Awards, Community Service Learning courses, Arts Co-op, Arts Internship, International learning, student mobility and destination study.
Since the School assumed operations of the Plaza in July 2011, thousands of community members have rediscovered that the Mexican Heritage Plaza is the ideal location to have a wedding, an intimate meeting, a conference, a family celebration, and any other type of event.

The School of Art has been accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design since 1984. Marco de Jong has been named the Arts Student of the Year by the Auckland University Arts Students’ Association.
Dietrich School alumnus Daniel Borzutzky (A&S ’97) is the recipient of the 2016 National Book Award for Poetry for his book, The Performance of Becoming Human (Brooklyn Arts Press, 2016). Collectively, our faculty and administrators strive to give students in this school the best possible arts education within a liberal arts curriculum while also meeting the diverse educational and cultural needs of the campus and community.
