It can provide an introduction to the profession of creative arts therapy, which requires a graduate degree; the bachelor-level courses would not be acceptable toward a graduate-degree in creative arts therapy. Economic analyses and cost studies confirm that the arts enhance coping and improve response to treatment, reducing the costs associated with extended hospital care and pain medication. This review explores the relationship between engagement with the creative arts and health outcomes, specifically the health effects of music engagement, visual arts therapy, movement-based creative expression, and expressive writing. William Neigher, Vice President, System Development, and Chief Strategy Officer for Atlantic Health System, noted that there are many opportunities for arts to play an important role in healing, both in and out of hospital settings. As our movement evolves and engages with mainstream arts and cultural practitioners and organisations, we need to diversify. To foster co-operation, information and resource sharing between groups and individuals to ensure effective and efficient use of arts and creative services to meet the needs of people with disabilities and/or disadvantage. They also reported increases in positive communications with cancer patients and health care providers.
